Pretty much everything out of Gillian’s mouth has me rolling on the floor or pounding the table in rageful agreement about whatever miscarriage of justice we’re talking about. We record on Wednesdays and it usually takes us about 2 hours to get through the session. We don’t share our thoughts or opinions before we start recording so that we’ll come to it fresh. We watch separately and take very detailed notes. Patrick: It takes between 5 and 6 hours for us to watch the documentary before recording. Mostly our listeners have encouraged us to go even further–to not shy away from being our passionate, opinionated, super sassy selves.ĭP: What’s your recording and editing schedule like? Mostly listeners seem to appreciate that they find themselves laughing unexpectedly and empathetically at these horrific situations. Patrick: We have been blown away by the listener response and the community that has developed around the podcast. Can you imagine laughing your face off at a recap of “The Keepers” or “Mommie Dead and Dearest”? No? We promise our mix of feminist, uber-gay, victim-advocating sass will get you there.ĭP: What are some of your favorite TC podcasts out there? Which should listeners start with? We use clips from the documentary both to help tell the story and to highlight the ridiculous and hilarious aspects of the case. Each week we watch a true crime documentary and then we recap it. The podcasts were our way of tricking fancy Broadway types into hang out with us.ĭP: How does True Crime Obsessed differentiate from other true crime podcasts? Patrick: Gillian and I are both New Yorkers and bona fide theater nerds, so we started by making Broadway-themed podcasts. See below for our Q&A.ĭiscover Pods: How did you decide to get into podcasting? I got a change to catchup with Patrick about the podcast, true crime as a genre, and their production schedule. They have the perfect balance of entertainment, analysis, and humor needed to properly dissect a true crime podcast. Hosts Patrick and Gillian have the requisite chemistry required for any good podcast. Reviewing and recapping true crime podcasts isn’t everything True Crime Obsessed does though. The shear fact that True Crime Obsessed exists is a testament to the proliferation of true crime as a genre - it’s now getting the respect of other genres of mainstream entertainment.
